"Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world”.

Paulo Freire, Brazilian philosopher and educator

Following in the spirit of this sentiment, educators have for years developed new methods to enable and streamline the passing of knowledge to next generation. In a world in constant change, where technology distributes information faster than ever, professors are facing new challenges and opportunities that call on innovative projects to reach new solutions.

The quality of practices in the classroom has increased in Brazil. More than that, the educational environment is trespassing the classroom borders, and bringing new players and ideas into the pedagogical-fold that influence dialogues on world-views and add critical content to the classic education model. Campus Brasil’s Innovative Education Program aims to put the participants in touch with those Brazilians responsible for this wave of transformation. The program will introduce participants to research specialist in the field, explore examples of successful projects, interact with innovators of these projects and see how students are facing the changes stemming from these initiatives.

Innovative Education in Brazil

"Traveling to a foreign country is often a frightening experience, especially when you do not speak the native language. This was the case when our class travelled to Sao Paulo and Rio, Brazil.  However, with Campus Brasil, the experience was incredible. Campus Brasil magnified the amount of knowledge we gained about the local environment along with the ease of travel in everyday situations such as ordering lunch and dinner. I wanted to come to Brasil to learn more about a different business and social culture, which I did, and it would not have been close to the same experience without Campus Brasil."

ACADEMICS

- LECTURES:

The most traditional way of learning. Campus Brasil works with top-notch universities (see some of them here) in order to provide the best content to the students.

*All lectures are held in English.

- ORGANIZATION VISITS:

We don't want your students to spend the entire visit inside a classroom when there is a whole new world to discover outside it.

The organization visits can vary from a dialogue with a senior manager, director or CEO; to a half-day visit including a tour of the organization's facilities.

The most important part of any organization visit is that your students will be free to ask any question they want. Campus Brasil will provide information about all organizations and companies to be visited including articles, videos, etc. -- so participants can prepare questions.

- Benjamin Franklin

These may be the main cities to do observe innovative education initiatives in Brazil, but they are surely not the only ones.

Hence, we are we are open to modifications of the itinerary, to include other cities that also highlight innovations in Brazilian education.

Feel free to add or replace cities for your custom program!

SÃO PAULO

With a population of 20 million people, São Paulo is a city of impressive numbers. With the largest GDP in the country, the city breathes business, housing more than 60% of multinational companies established in Brazil. No wonder the metropolis is known for its fast pace.

At the same time, São Paulo is a cultural reference and example of cosmopolitism. Indeed, the city is a melting pot, having a significant number of inhabitants from several nationalities - and this diversity can be seen by simply walking in any corner of this concrete jungle.

All these factors make "Sampa" a city of endless opportunities and possibilities, and this influences the educational system in the city. Besides being home to one of the oldest universities in Brazil (Faculdade de Direito do Largo do São Francisco) and one of the best universities in the world (Universidade de São Paulo), the city is also a stage to many innovative initiatives in the teaching and learning field.

MANAUS

Manaus is the capital of the State of Amazonas and the main financial center of the Amazon region -- representing the corporate and economic development of northern Brazil. It is a historical port city, located in the center of the largest tropical forest in the world. With a population of just over 2 millions inhabitants, the city stands as the seventh most populous in Brazil. And one of Brazil's most famous, as Manaus is a popular tourist and ecotourism destination -- the 10th

most visited tourist destination in Brazil.

Besides the touristic and economical potential, Manaus is also a great example of diversity coexisting. This is because, in contrast with all the development taking place in the city, we still can see native cultures inhabiting the local villages, spread out along the tributaries of the Amazon River. In this sense, the city allows us to observe the innovative ways education is being managed in the area, in order to adapt its content to the particular skills and needs of this diverse and culturaly distinct population.

The itinerary detailed below is a mere glimpse at the program, it is intended to give you a better perspective of the program's focus and the resources Campus Brasil has access to, and can provide global learners. We encourage and welcome customization.
