PORTO ALEGRE
Porto Alegre is the capital of the southernmost state of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul. The city is considered one of the best cities in the country to live, work, do business, study and have fun. Also, it has been highlighted three times by the UN, in recent years, as the Metropolis number one in quality of life in Brazil. Moreover, Porto Alegre ranks among the 40 best models of democratic public administration for its participatory budget and for the best Human Development Index (HDI) between national metropolises. Being one of the greenest cities in the country, the metropolis also hosted the first World Social Forum and was chosen as one of the venues of the World Cup 2014. Keeping with the tradition and being faithful to the "national passion" Porto Alegre has two major football teams: Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense (Also known as simply Grêmio) and Sport Club Internacional (known as Internacional). Besides the football, the metropolis has also released some famous names in other categories of sports, such as judo, gymnastics, among others.
Althought American football still has a shy popularity in Brazil it is one of the modalities played in the city, with two teams: Porto Alegre Pumpkins, the oldest in the state, and Porto Alegre Bulls, who play with the Esporte Clube São José, a club with multiple sports. Our program aims to put the participants with all that rank of sports, from the top popular one, until those still emerging in the national scenario.
