Brazil Unveils New E-VISA Program to Streamline Entry Process

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched the "Electronic Visitor Visa Program: E-VISA” for passport holders of four countries.
Going into full effect in January, all passport holders from Australia, Canada, Japan, and the U.S. looking to travel to the World's 5th largest country will be able to avoid the hassle of a visit to the consulate, or hiring a visa service, and instead apply for a Brazilian Visa online! Applicants traveling to the Country for a maximum of 90-days can apply for the E-VISA online via the website [www.vfsglobal.com/brazil-evisa]. An app will also be available to access the application via mobile phones or tablets. Upon completion of the online visa application, applicants should expect to wait 3-5 business days for their visa to be approved. Note, the Brazilian Ministry holds the right to request more information from an applicant or deny a visa.
The cost is U.S. $40 (non-refundable), a quarter of the fee charged currently for U.S. passport holders applying for the visa. It will be valid for up to two years, for a maximum of 90 days in-country per year.
For all those Australian, Canadian, Japanese and U.S. students, faculty and study abroad administrators traveling on FLPs this new E-VISA works for you too! There is a "Studies" category as a "reason for travel" that will allow you to use the E-VISA option for any study, teaching or supervised internship that does not exceed 90 days.
This will not change the *student or *intern visa processes for semester or year-long programs (these applicants will still need to apply through a Brazilian Consulate) The Brazilian E-VISA is now available for all Australian passports, it will be available starting:
• January 11, 2018, for Japanese passports,
• January 18, 2018 for Canadian passports,
• January 25, 2018 for U.S. passports
